What we need.
This is a hands-on infrastructure ownership role. You will be responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, and long-term evolution of the systems that connect our AI agents to the PSTN, SIP providers, carrier networks, and customer environments. You’ll work on real production traffic at meaningful scale, and you’ll play a central role in making our voice infrastructure more scalable, resilient, observable, and operationally mature over time.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to do more than maintain legacy telephony systems. You’ll help build the telephony backbone for a modern AI platform operating across multiple countries and millions of real-world customer interactions.
What you will do.
- Own the architecture, evolution, and day-to-day reliability of Gail’s VoIP and telephony infrastructure
- Deploy, operate, and improve systems built on Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, and related voice infrastructure
- Design and maintain SIP-based routing, trunking, failover, media handling, and interoperability across providers and customer environments
- Manage telephony infrastructure and improve its scalability, resilience, security, and observability
- Debug production issues involving SIP signaling, RTP/SRTP media, codec negotiation, call routing, NAT traversal, carrier/provider interoperability, and call quality
- Build and maintain integrations with telephony providers, SIP trunks, and carrier services
- Partner closely with backend and product engineers to connect telephony infrastructure with application logic, APIs, AI services, and real-time workflows
- Improve monitoring, alerting, runbooks, deployment processes, and incident response for voice systems in production
- Support customer deployments and escalations where telephony, networking, or carrier-level expertise is needed
- Drive best practices for reliability, security, compliance, and operational excellence across the voice stack
Must have qualifications.
- Significant hands-on experience in VoIP / telephony engineering in production environments
- Strong experience with Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, or similar real-time telephony platforms
- Experience owning telephony infrastructure on a major cloud provider such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Strong working knowledge of SIP, RTP, SRTP, SIP trunking, codecs, SBC concepts, DIDs, dial plans, and call routing
- Experience debugging signaling and media problems using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, SIP traces, and provider/carrier logs
- Deep understanding of the networking concepts that affect voice systems, including NAT traversal, firewalls, load balancing, TLS, UDP/TCP behavior, and latency-sensitive traffic
- Experience operating customer-facing or business-critical production systems with uptime and reliability expectations
- Ability to own infrastructure end-to-end: architecture, deployment, operations, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams
Strongly preferred
- Direct experience with Kamailio + FreeSWITCH in production
- Direct experience deploying and operating telephony systems on GCP
- Experience with carrier integrations and SIP providers such as Twilio, Telnyx, Vonage, or similar
- Familiarity with observability and operations tooling for distributed systems
- Experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, and repeatable deployment practices
- Experience supporting telephony systems in regulated industries such as insurance, banking, or healthcare
Why this role is exciting.
You’ll own and evolve the telephony backbone behind a platform that is already operating across 14+ countries and supporting hundreds of millions of customer interactions. This is an opportunity to work on real voice infrastructure at scale, with direct impact on reliability, geographic expansion, customer outcomes, and the long-term architecture of Gail’s AI platform.
